Cambridge's six licensed punting stations
The Conservators of the River Cam license six punting stations in Cambridge. This guide shows where each sits, so you can see how Quayside fits into the wider picture.
The six stations
Cambridge City Council lists the licensed stations from north to south as Jesus Green, Quayside, Trinity College, Mill Pond, Mill Lane and the Granta mill pond near Sheep's Green. The council advises buying punting tickets from licensed companies operating near their stations.
| Station | Where it sits on the river |
|---|---|
| Jesus Green | The northernmost station, on the corner of Jesus Green, downstream from Quayside |
| Quayside | Beside Magdalene Bridge, at the northern entrance to the College Backs |
| Trinity College | Inside the college grounds, on the central stretch of the Backs |
| Mill Pond | On Silver Street, towards the southern end of the Backs |
| Mill Lane | Close to Mill Pond, south of the central colleges |
| Granta mill pond | The southernmost station, near Sheep's Green |
How the stations differ
Stations differ in their position relative to the College Backs, which affects the direction and length of a trip. Whether a station offers chauffeured trips, self-hire or both, and whether its access runs through college grounds, depends on the operator and can change. Check with the operator before you go.
Where Quayside fits
Quayside is the northern entrance to the College Backs, so a trip from here runs upstream past Magdalene, St John's, Trinity, Clare, King's and Queens'. Follow the sights in order in the route guide.
Choosing a station
Start from where you will be that day. Quayside suits visitors exploring the north of the historic centre, with Bridge Street, Magdalene College and Castle Mound close by. For tickets, trip length and tips, see the punting guide.
Plan your visit
Station facilities, access and seasonal arrangements vary by operator. This page lists the stations as published by the council and does not rank or recommend companies.
